President: Maria Mahar, MA, RD,CDN

Maria is the past chair of the Health Aging Dietetic Practice Group for The Academy of  Nutrition and Dietetics; she is was also the past president of the New York State Academy of Nutrition Dietetic Association. She is the Director of Nutrition Services at the Onondaga County Department of Adult and Long Term Care Services. Awarded the New York State Emerging Dietitian of the Year 2010, Maria’s favorite leadership quote is “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other” —John F. Kennedy

President Elect: Emily Kratz, MPH, RD, CDN

Emily has her Bachelor's Degree from Syracuse University and also completed her dietetic internship there. She then obtained her Master of Public Health from SUNY Upstate. She is now a Registered Dietitian at Hematology Oncology Associates of CNY, and also works per diem at Auburn Community Hospital. She enjoys being involved with CNYDA and has been on the Nominating Committee, National Nutrition Month Co-Chair, and is now the Membership Chair. She loves animals, traveling, and music.

Immediate Past President: Amy Merwarth RD CDN CSP

Amy has been a registered dietitian for over ten years.  She is currently employed at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY as a pediatric outpatient dietitian.  Amy’s vast work experience includes working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), being a clinical dietitian in a hospital, working as an outpatient dietitian in the Pediatric GI office and working as a nutrition specialist for a formula company.  Currently she primarily cares for patients and families with rare, metabolic conditions that are detected via newborn screening.  She helps provide families with a detailed nutrition plan of what their child can eat and what they should stay away from.  Amy also works in the Pediatric Nephrology clinic and cares for children with Chronic Renal Disease who are not on dialysis.  Amy received the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award in 2017.  She has been active with CNYDA as the President in 2017-2018 along with serving as President Elect and Secretary in other previous years.  

Secretary: Kristen Davis MS, RDN, CDN, CLC

Treasurer: Joanne LaValle Salvagno, MS, RD, CDN, CPC-A, CPB

Joanne is a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Clinical Nutrition. She has worked as a Registered Dietitian in both acute and long term care settings.  She has a Master’s degree in Communications from Ithaca College and a second bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems.  Joanne worked in nutrition software development for The CBORD Group as a data analyst for new drug research. Joanne works for Upstate Medical University’s Hematology Oncology Fellowship as a Program Administrator.  Joanne has served two terms as President of the NY Southern Tier Dietetic Association.  She enjoys spending time with family and in being active outdoors.

Nominating Co-Chair: Jackie Hanks, RD, CDN, CNSC

Jackie is a registered dietitian, currently employed with Morrison Management at Upstate University Hospital full-time, as well as Loretto Health and Rehab per diem.  Jackie works primarily with pre/post-op surgical patients requiring nutrition support in the acute care setting. Jackie has been involved with CNYDA over the past 2 years on the Nominating Committee and served as chairperson last year.

Professional Development Co-Chair: Emily Tills MS RDN CDN

Emily attend Marywood University's Coordinated Program in Nutrition and Dietetics and graduated in 2018. She has her Master's Degree in Applied Exercise Science and Sports Nutrition from Concordia University from Chicago. She is the Clinical Dietitian at Seneca Hill Manor in Oswego NY, as well as owns her own 1:1 Nutrition coaching business, Nourished with Emily, where she works with women to build healthy lifestyle habits and for weight loss. She enjoys hanging out with family, Syracuse University Football, traveling, and playing with her dog, Mr. Magoo.

Professional Development Co-Chair: Monica Sathyamurthy MS, RD, CDN

Public Policy Chair: Susan Branning, MBA, RD, CDN, CNSC, FAND

Susan is the manager of Clinical Nutrition at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Care Center in Syracuse, NY where she leads the inpatient clinical nutrition program, works closely with the Nutritional Services department on menu development and analysis, and is an active member of the St. Joseph’s Wellness Steering committee.She is currently the NYSAND Delegate representing Central NY and Mohawk Regional Dietetic Assocations and is also a past-present of the NYSAND.In her spare time Susan enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, reading, skiing in the winter, and spending time on the St. Lawrence River in the summer.

Website Liaison: Danielle Stegman-Barber MS, RD, CDN, CDE

Danielle is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Syracuse. She previously worked inpatient at Upstate University Hospital. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, especially hiking and camping.

Public Relations & Social Media Co-Chair: Amanda Shultz

Amanda is a second year graduate student at Syracuse University studying Nutrition Science on the DPD track and is also currently serving as a graduate assistant for the department. Her goal is to work in pediatric dietetics and to do research in type 2 diabetes. She received her bachelors degree from SUNY Oswego in Wellness Management. She currently works as a pharmacy technician and enjoys spending time being active with  family outdoors in her free time.

Greg is currently in his last year in the nutrition undergraduate program at Syracuse University.

Student Representative: Caitlyn Harley
